BIG DAIRY YIELD
CHIEF GRADER GIVES FIGURES Creamery butter graded in Auckland for the seven months of the dairy season, to February, exceeded the quantity for a similar space in the previous season by 250,000 boxes, Mr. E. C. Wood, chief Government dairy produce grader, announced yesterday afternoon. Mr. Wood, in speaking at the conference of the Auckland provincial branch of the New' Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, said butter had advanced, while cheese was in practically the same position. Butter’s general quality had been fairly uniform. There had been a degree of irregularity in the salting during the season. It seemed evident that every factory should have salt-testing apparatus. The quality of cheese could not be considered to be as uniform or satisfactory as butter. Loose and open texture was a principal defect earlier in the season. On the whole, Auckland cheese was clean and attractive in crates.
