LIGHTENING THE DAILY BURDEN And if electricity is a boon to the city dweller what terms can be used to express its usefulness in the country home and on the farm. For country women who have to prepare big meals for harvesters in the heat of midsummer or to the housewife on the dairy farm with early morning tea to prepare, it is a priceless benefit. With the advance of dairying in the province the demand for electricity is increasing with great rapidity. To the modern dairyman it is now almost indispensable. Once a line is connected to a farmer’s shed it Is quickly used for a variety of uses. It can be used for heating water, of which big quantities are used just after milking, and it is estimated that one horse power of energy is capable of heating up to 12 gallons of water front 50deg. F. to boiling point in nine hours. This is sufficient to scald out thoroughly the whole of the milkii and separating plant and also the c , ,s. VARIETY Of USES For general Industrial purposes the use of electricity is so well known as to require little mention here. In addition to the plants in big factories small motors are now performing a variety of service in all manner of businesses where once the intrusion of mechanical devices were never heard of. Not even in beauty parlours can the aid of electricity be dispensed with. Auckland has never had enough electric power, but now, with an ample supply available a greater and more varied use for it should natur ally result.
