BOXING COUNCIL’S STATUS

COMPLAINTS ANSWERED Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. When the complaint made yesterday by the chairman of the Otago Boxing Association regarding the constitution of the New Zealand Boxing Council was brought under the notice of the chairman of the council, Dr. P. F. McLvedy, he stated that the Otago official was under a complete misapprehension concerning the position. ‘‘Neither Wellington nor any other town has a hand in electing the members of the boxing council,” said Dr. McEvedy. “The council is elected at the annual conference of delegates of the associations affiliated to the New Zealand Boxing Association, which also lays down the rules and regulations for the control of the sport. The members of the council are not delegates for any association and are thus entirely independent. All we have to do is to carry out the policy laid down by the delegates each year, and we would be very weak-kneed if we did not do so. “The council has had nothing to do with the limitation 'of purses. That was fixed at the last annual conference when the delegates saw fit in their wisdom to centre the Boxing Council in Wellington. The majority of the asso- j ciations, I venture to say, will differ j from the Otago chairman’s complaint { that his association has net had a fair | deal from the council.”
