CHILD DIES OF BURNS
MATCHES BECOME IGNITED CLOTHING SET ON FIRE From Our Own Correspondent DARGAVILLE, Today. The inquest concerning the death, of a five-year-old half-caste girl, Jeajr Mary Pene Hall, a daughter of Mr. F. Hall, of Mamaranui, who received fatal burns owing to a box of matches becoming ignited, was opened before the district coroner. Mr. J. A. McLean, on Sunday. After evidence of identification had been given the inquest was adjourned until Saturday. Apparently the child was on her wav to school after luncli when a box of matches which she was carrying became ignited. It is assumed that the sudden burst of flame set the child’s clothes alight and badly burned her about the body before assistance was forthcoming - . The child died later in the Northern Wairoa Hospital at Te Kopuru.
