business of the month MOORINGS FOR VISITORS The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday afternoon, the chairm'an, Mr, M. H. Wynyard, presiding. Approval was granted the officer in charge of the Naval Base at Devonport to enlarge the gun-mounting shed at tlie base. A request from the Whangarei Harbour Board to hire one of the board’s bucket dredges was referred to the hoard in committee, on the motion of the chairman. A letter was received from the Auckland City Council stating that it accepted no liability for the St Heliers Bay Wharf and it did not feel disposed to spend any money on the structure A letter was also received from Mr. A V Powell asking if the board wouid sell the wharf as it stood. The board decided that the application of Mr. Powell be declined and that subject to the consent of the Minister of Marine, if necessary, the wharf to demolished and the material sold The tender of Mr. O. E. Collins’ for Australian hardwoods and turpentine piles was received. The amount was -U 1,952 14s 6d. Seven firms tendered for a supply of 2,000 cases of benzine That of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, was considered the most suitable, and a test is to be made with 50 cases of ihe particular variety submitted. .V letter was received from Mr A Wilkinson. Whangarei. asking that some provision be made for mooring pleasure boats visiting Auckland. The harbourmaster reported that the writer of the letter was under some misapprehension. Accommodation for visiting pleasure boats was always available on application to the harbour master or to the New Zealand Power and Motor Boat Association, which always had berths available. It was decided to forward a copy of of the harbourmaster’s report to Mr Wilkinson. Members of the board regretted the tone of the Whangarei man’s letter.
