NEW ROUTE TO HUNUA

PROGRESS OF FORMATION WORK The new formation on the access road betwen Clevedon and Hunua is expected to be completed by next summer, when the route is expected to be a very popular round trip for motorists. Turning off from Wairoa Gorge Road, the new route rises on a narrow metal surfaced formation into the hills. Hew formation is encountered at the top of the metal. On an inspection of the work, the touring manager of the Auckland Automobile Association, Mr. R. A. Champtaloup, found there was still filling to be done toward the southern end, where a culvert was being formed. The unfinished portions of the road are narrow% but are passable for traffic. The Black Falls stream is crossed by a bridge, and it is then only about a mile to the turn-off above Hunua Falls.
