“MENACE TO COMMUNITY”
FISHERMAN FINED £5 From Our Own Correspondent PUKBKOHE, Monday. “A man who is under the influence of liquor when in charge of a car is a menace to the whole community. A man, to drive a car nowadays, when there is so much traffic on the roads, must be sober, and in possesion of all his wits.” So said Mr. J. T. Stembridge, J.P., in the Pukekohe Court today, when a fisherman, John William Nelson, was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a car at Pukekohe on Saturday. Sergeant J. T. Cowan said Nelson had been drinking during the day. In his car was a demijohn, around which a number of Maoris had collected. He was not in a fit condition to drive a car. Nelson was fined £5. As he used his car to earn his living, the justices decided not to cancel his licence. He was warned tq keep away from drink in future.
