“THEY HAD TO SEE PARIS” An excellently varied programme of pictures and music is presented for the entertainment of Aucklanders at the Civic Theatre this week, headed by the mirth-provoking comedy, “They Had to See Paris." The scheming mother, ambitious for her daughter; the long—suffering father, ‘beset by a gold-digging demi—mon‘daine; and the prodigal son, of a. very ‘nouveau riche American ,family, see all they want—and more—of Paris and the French nobility before returning to their home sadder, wiser and emptier of pocket, but happy. The nature of their adventures and troubles can be easily imagined by all who have seen Will Rogers on the screen. This Fox comedy—his first talking picture - gives Wonderful scope to his resources, and he has not been slow in giving full rein to his matchless ability as a. comedian. Sup—ported by an excellent cast. this film is one that will keep its audience in paroxysms of_laughter from start i 0 finish. There is some particularly fine music in the programme. Mr. Ted Henkel and his orchestra give an inspiring rendering of Herald’s “Zampa” over~ turc, and in the stage presentation play “Dance Away the Night” with ingenious variations. The presenta—tion takes the form of a garden oi living roses beautified by fine lighting effects and the novel costumes of the ballet girls, who dance delightfully The Fox liovietone News contains an address to the World by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward. who. in a few words, describes NeVV Zealand's attractions for tourists, and scenes of the summer meeting at Trentham. A short operatic film completes the pro—gramme.
