HARBOUR BRIDGE
NO MORE BORINGS AT PRESENT PROTEST BY BIRKENHEAD The Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. J. P* McPhail, has received advice from the chairman of the Harbour Board Commission that it is not intended to take - any more borings at the present. Mr. McPhail said that he is at a loss to understand the attitude adopted by the commissioners in now declining to carry out the arrangements made during the sitting that borings would be taken at Shoal Bay, Northcote and Birkenhead. It seemed strange, he said, that despite the fact that the first-named site was condemned by leading harbour experts as unsuitable, the taking of borings was proceeded with, and the proposed Birkenhead site ignored. A further communication is being sent to the chairman asking for further information as to the reason not proceeding with the borings »• i originally decided upon.
