OVERSEA FARMERS
RECEPTION AT ROTORUA WELCOMED BY MAORIS From Our Own Correspondent ROTORUA, Friday. The party of Empire farmers was given a civic reception in the Majestic Theatre last evening. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, welcomed the visitors and trusted they would leave with the knowledge that it was a farming centre. Factory returns showed that last year over 1,000 tons of butter had been produced in the district. Mr. Whitley introduced Mr. Hornsby, a fellow-countryman of the Mayor, who expressed surprise and delight at the progress made by so young a country.
Chief Mita Taupopoki, in Maori ceremonial attire, welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Maoris, Mr. Kepa Ehau interpreting. A typical Maori concert followed by members of Tuhourangi and Ngati Whakaui. Before leaving this morning many of the visitors expressed the great Pleasure their visit had given them and the delight they had experienced on the round trip. Mr. A. V. Allan referred especially to the kindness and hospitality of the Maoris, which greatly appealed to him. AUSTRALIANS ON TOUR TE AROHA VISITED From Our Own Correspondent TE AR<sha, Friday. I he party of Australian farmers" at present touring the Dominion, paid a brief visit to Te Aroha today. The members were highly enthusiastic over the prosperity of the district, as denoted by the state of the farms and the stock. The plantations on most of the farms and shelter-belts for stock came info high praise, as also did the great' carrying capacity of the dairy farms and the receipts from the factories generally. They expressed great pleasure at their visit.
