Miss Marie Sim, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs. Baker Cresswell, of Victoria Avenue, Remuera. * * * Lady Braddon, who has been on a visit to New 2Sealand» left yesterday by the Maunganui for Sydney. * * * Miss Rone Brown, of Lower Symonds Street, has returned to Auckland after a few months’ stay with Mrs. Leslie Angus, of Wellington.
FAREWELL AFTERNOON
ARAPUNI FUNCTION An enjoyable afternoon was spent ,at Mrs. Watson’s home on Wednesday, at Arapuni, when residents met to bid farewell to Mrs. Overgaard, who is returning to Sweden early next month. A pleasant time was spent with music and competitions. Appropriate speeches were made, followed by afternoon tea.

DEVONPORT BRANCH The Levonport branch of the WiC.T.U. held a well-attended opening meeting on Wednesday, Mrs. Williams presiding. An interesting paper on “Frances Willard” day was read. A large quantity of clothing was brought by the members for the Willard Home. A successful "Bring and Buy” sale was also held.

NORTHCOTE FUNCTION On Thursday evening members of St. Paul’s Wesleyan Methodist Church, Northcote, met in the Sunday school rooms, when the minister. Rev. «T. H. .Mien, on behalf of the church members presented Mrs. H. W. Tyer with a silver tea-set and Mr. J. W. Hulbert with a cheque, on their retirement from the position of organists after a period of eight years. A programme of musical and elocutionarv items was given by Mrs. W. Ward.' Mr. L. R. r>avies. Mrs. J. Bear, Mrs. J. W. Court, Mr. E. C. Hansman, and Mr. J. W. Tfulbert.

High School Girls Entertain Friends On Thursday night fhe Old Girls of the Hamilton High School held their annual tennis dance in the Maritza Cabaret. Its attractive decorations of quaint lanterns and dainty curtains made a delightful setting for the many pretty frocks. The hostess wag Mrs. J. J. Standrim, who was in a frock of peach pink flow.ered taffeta, with godets of guipure lace. JOLLY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION A jolly time was spent last Saturday -afternoon, when Mrs. W. Ratcliffe, Grey Lynn, organised a children’s party in honour of her daughter Joy's tenth birthday. Mrs. Ratcliffe received her guests in a smart frock of floral silk ninon, and Miss Joy Ratcliffe wore a dainty frock of shell pink satin. The day being gloriously fine, a marquee Was erected on the lawn ’ and decorated with bowls of pink dahlias and asparagus fern* Friends of Mrs. Ratcliffe organised the children’s games, the treasure hunt being won by Miss Shirley Bartlett and Master J. Costello. Those present were:—Shirley Bartlett, Ray Bartlett, Fay Bartlett, Marie Duggan, Shirley Curtis, Roxie McDonald, Gwen Newdick, Joyce Chapman, Lorna Skinner.
