A FAITHFUL SERVANT

AND A WORLD’S RECORD A correspondent has written to the Lisbon newspapers claiming the title of “Decana” (doyenne) of the Sisterhood of Housekeepers for an old servant in his employ. She entered the service of the writer’s great-grandfather, a general, at the age of nine in 1861, and served in succession his grandfather and father, and finally himself and his family. She is now 78 years of age, and has been in the family for 68 years. When she entered on her service two of her aunts wore serving in the same family, one who had begun with them in 1838 at the age of 11, and another who had started at the age of 14. Both died in the service of the family at the ages of 74 and 68 respectively. This would appear to be a world record.
