MUNICIPAL CONCERTS

The opening concert of the 1930 season will be given in the Town Hall, on Saturday, March 8, by the 'Municipal Band and soloists, with vocal assistance by Miss Kay Christie, contralto. A programme of outstanding merit will contain new numbers and original compositions. Of special interest will be Mendelssohn’s “Buy Bias” overture, the suite “Caucasian Sketches,” and the national fantasia “Reminiscences of Wales.” Instrumental solos will be played by Mr. McLennan, flute, Mr. Plreloung, clarinet, Mr. Bowes, cornet, and Mr. Rowland Jackson, xylophone. Miss Kay Christie 'will sing some charming ballads, with Miss Gordon at the piano. Booking arrangements are advertised.

Irving Berlin, after composing and writing stories for pictures, will emerge as a producer in his own right, with the first Irving Berlin production, a musical comedy, “Upstairs and Down.” He is now in Hollywood, workIng on the scenario.
