LAST DAYS OF “RiO RITA” The mucli tallied of new film, Ri° Rita” which is now in its last days at the Strand Theatre, certainly lives up to its promises as a lavish production. And it strikes a new note in the all talking, all singing, variety of picture in that it is not a Aim revue, but a musical comedy in. the beot 11 “Rio°Rita” provides an entirely new kind of role for the extremely clever actress Bebe Daniels, who until now has mostly confined herself to parts in which she emerges from a chrysalis stage to that of a beauty. Here she begins as a beauty, and as a Mexican one with no hint of the comic, bin complete with Spanish clothes and foreign accent and a most pleasing singing voice. Many of the scenes are really lovely, and infinite trouble was taken designing _ the Spanish settings and the mis-en-scene of the wonderful ball given by the Russian general. And Bebe Daniels is a ravishing figure in her many beautiful dresses.' The Strand programme also includes a full array of -specially selected short features. , , The all-talking picture has been instrumental in making many changes in the -motion picture. but despite what mav be the opinions of individuals as a whole, everyone will be thankful for their bringing to the screen no less fumous n. personulii-y than Sherlock Holmes, the famous detective of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. From his den in Baker Street, with and without the help of Scotland Yard, Holmes and his friend, Dr. Watson, have thrilled the millions with their exploits and their uncanny way of netting a criminal, or at least frustrating his efforts. Now, in the person of Clive Brook, the character of Sherlock Holmes lives and becomes a Beality. You will be able to see tlie famous methods of the detective and follow with him all the clues in tracking one of the greatest of modern crimes in the Paramount all-talk-ing drama, -The Return of Sherlock Holmes,” when it is shown at the Strand shortly.
