MANAWATU PLATE
GREAT DELIGHT WELL TREATED A TRICKY FIELD Handicapper G. S. Simpson has taken a big risk with Great Delight in placing the Ashhurst pacer on 4.37 in the principal event on the Manawatu card. H. Garnett’s charge may of course not be ready by the date of the meeting to run out two miles, but the connections of the Kee Dillon gelding will be smiling after seeing his “let-up” in tlie handicap. The field is a useful one and Sir Guy an improving sort will have a chance off the end, while Logan’s Pride is always dangerous. The Auckland mare Pavlova did not get too much encouragement in being placed on 12yds behind, but she is in fine form and if started will not disgrace herself. Gang Awa appeals better than the others on 24yds and W. Hughes’s mare will be hard to hea.d off. A real stayer is Native Piero, and off a 4.43 mark his prospects are decidedly rosy. Richore is on 48yds, and last year’s winner is sure to be in the picture again. The Cambridge pair, Enawah and Te Wahia, are on 4.40, but they will find the task of conceding some of those in front of them a solid one. At this stage Native Hero, Gang Awa, Pavlova and Great Delight look the most likely.
