McCaw during her stay there. The Rev. Wilna Constable, who with the Rev. W. A. Constable has been visiting the South Island, will be in Wellington during the week-end and will preach there on Sunday. She expects to return to Auckland early next week.

MR. ERIC RICE BIDS FAREWELL TO MEMBERS OF OVERSEAS LEAGUE

A very cheery hour was spent in the Grand Hotel Lounge yester- j day afternoon, when Mr. Eric Rice, ' assistant secretary to the Over- i seas League headquarters in London, who has been visiting the Dominion, entertained members of the league at a farewell gathering. Br. Maguire, the president, spoke of the growing importance of the league and referred to the interest in the organisation which had been aroused through Mr. Rice’s visit to New Zealand. Miss Quayle, secretary of the Auckland branch, spoke of the particular benefit the local branch had derived from the visit of Mr. Rice, and expressed the regret of the members at liis departure. Mr. Rice warmly thanked the members for the hospitality they had so readily extended to him, and in a happy little speech referred to the work of the league in stimulating the spirit of unity among the different countries of the Empire. ENJOYABLE AT HOME

PRESIDENT ENTERTAINS AT MT. HOBSON CROQUET CLUB BON VOYACZ TO POPULAR MEMBER A most enjoyable At Home was given by Mrs. J. C. Badeley, president of the Mount Hobson Croquet Club, to members, friends and the executive of the Auckland Croquet Association, at the club’s grounds yesterday afternoon in honour of Mrs. Harbutt, who is leaving shortly for England. In making the presentation Mrs. Badeley spoke of the high esteem in which Mrs. Harbutt was held, and on behalf of the members wished her bon voyage. The clubroom was decorated with scarlet and white streamers, the club’s colours, hanging from the ceiling, while vases of flowers in the same colours were placed on the tables, giving air of festivity to the room. Mrs. Badeley received her guests wearing a frock of black georgette, with an overskirt of silver and black lace, and a black straw and georgette hat trimmed with black and white ospreys. The guests were entertained with croquet and the winners were: Mrs. Rossiter and Mrs. McGill the first A, and Mrs. Keary and Mrs. Campbell the B. CHAIR OF OBSTETRICS

MAYORESS OF NEW LYNN CONVENES MEETING A representative gathering of women attended a meeting convened by Mrs. C. F. Gardner, Mayoress of New-Lynn, held at her residence for the purpose of discussing matters in connection with the New Zealand Obstetrical Endowment Appeal. The Mayoress was in the chair and with her was Mrs. Lawson. Br. Margaret Knight, introduced by the chairman, gave an illuminating address on the urgency of founding an Obstetrical Chair in Dunedin, and also answered questions upon the subject. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Br. Knight at the close of the address. A committee was formed with power to add to its number, the officers being as follows: Mrs. C. Gardner, president: Mrs. Lawson, vice-presi-dent,* Mrs. Reich, hon. secretary. Without delay, ways and means were promptly discussed as to the manner in which the New Lynn quota of £SO should be secured. It was decided to hold a garden party in March at Mrs. Gardner’s residence, and arrangements were made for the organisation of stalls, competitions and a tea booth.

Miss Gillett, private secretary to Lady Stonehaven, Australia, is on a visit to New Zealand and is staying with Mrs. J. B. A’Deane, of Ashcott, Takapau. Miss Gillett will he remembered by many New Zealanders as the secretary of Lady Jellicoe during Lord Jellicoe’s term of office in New Zealand.

Campbell, presided over a meeting of the executive of the Alayoress War Memorial Library League yesterday morning, when it was decided to hold the annual meeting on AVednesday, Alarch 26. Owing to the recent wet season having interfered with arrangements for raising funds, further efforts will have to be considered and suggestions are to be invited from members.

BRIDE-ELECT IS GUEST OF EVENING PRETTY FLORAL DECORATIONS At Hotel Arawa, Rotorua, on Tuesday evening, Mrs. C. W. Grove was hostess at a five hundred and bridge evening in honour of her daughter, Miss Dora Grove, whose marriage to Mr. Herbert Boon, of New Plymouth, was celebrated on Wednesday. Airs. Grove received her guests in the lounge, wearing a frock of black georgette net, Aliss Dora Grove was dressed in a chartreuse georgette and lace frock. The dining-room had been charmingly decorated with dahlias and bowls of gladioli and asparagus fern, in shades of red. The lounge had been arranged for the “five hundred' 1 players and was gay with crystal vases of asters and larkspur and bowls of gladioli and flock, in colours of mauve and pink. The prizes for bridge were won by Mrs. S. Hay and Air. F. Wilkie, the five hundred prize going to Mr. Halkett. Later in the evening Aliss TC. Hall delighted the guests with two charming songs.
