PERSONAL.—Widely-known to the seafaring fraternity was the late Captain William Dow Wood, whose death occurred ! at Drummoyne, Sydney, on February 9. '■ Born at Montrose, Scotland, 77 years ago. i he went to sea at an an early age and was in command of sailing ships when still ii very young man. Captain Wood was in the intercolonial trade for some, years, first as master of the brig Neptune and later of the barque G. M. Tucker, at that time a well-known trader to New Zealand. In ISBS he joined the New South Wales pilot service, and was stationed for 14 years at Newcastle. He had a similar length of service at Sydney, where he retired from the position of senior* harbour pilot some years ago. He took an active interest in the affairs of the League of Ancient Mariners in Sydney. The funeral, which took place at the Rookwood crematorium, was largely attended. In accordance with his wishes, the ashes of the late Captain Wood were cast into the sea outside Sydney Heads. Captain Duncan McDonald, late master of the Tofua, is proceeding to Sydney today by the Maunganui. KAIKORAI SAILS TOMORROW.—The Union Company’s collier Kaikorai is; to be dispatched from Auckland at noon tomorrow for Newcastle, where she will load for New Zealand ports. CUMBERLAND DUE MONDAY. —The Federal steamer Cumberland leaves New Plymouth tomorrow for Auckland, where she is due on Monday to continue her loading under the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. ROTORUA DUE TUESDAY.—Advice has been received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company that the liner Rotorua leaves Bluff tomonow for Auckland, where she is due next Tuesday to continue her loading for Home. HAURAKI ARRIVES. The Union Company’s motor-ship Hauraki arrived in the stream at Auckland shortly after noon today from the Pacific Coast.* Later she berthed at the Prince’s Wharf to unload her cargo before leaving again next Tuesday for Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. VALACIA ARRIVING. —Due in the •stream at Auckland at 3 o’clock this afternoon from Antwerp and New York, the C. and D; Line’s chartered steamer Valacia will berth later at the Queen’s Wharf to unload the local portion of her cargo. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Cdmpany will be the local agents. MAUI POMARE DUE TOMORROW.— Due at Auckland at daylight tomorrow from Apia, Samoa, and Niue Island, the Government motor-ship Maui Pomare will berth at the King's Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. Tomorrow afternoon she proceeds to Lyttelton and Wellington to complete discharge Spedding, Limited, will be the local agent.

WEIRBANK WITH SUGAR.—The motor-ship Weirbank arrived in the stream at Auckland yesterday afternoon from Peru, and berthed this morning at Chelsea, where she unloads her cargo of raw sugar. The vessel left Peru on February 1 and experienced good weather until six days ago, when she ran into a southerly gale which lasted for two days. Captain J. T. Scougal. late master of the Olivebank, is in command t>f the Weirbank, and he has the following officers with him:—Chief, Mr. A C. Loads: second, Mr. W. B. Macbean; third. Mr. W. L. Hogg: wireless operator, Mr. G. C. Godfrey: chief engineer, Mr. .T. D Paul; second, Mr. A. G. McKissock; third, Mr. F. Ellis; fourth, Mr. T. Robinson; fifth, Mr. R. Spedding, Limited, the local agent, expects the vessel to finish discharge toward the end of next week, and she will then proceed to Makatea to load for Auckland. GOLDEN WEST ARRIVES.—The O and O. steamer Golden West arrived m port this morning from Los Angeles. She has lumber and general cargo for discharge at New Zealand ports.
