MUST OBEY POLICE
NEWTON YOUTH FINED £2 ’ This is the type of youth that causes the police a great deal of troLible in Newton,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., fining Leslie McDowell £2 and costs at the Police Court this morning for behaving in a disorderly manner. The offence was said to have been committed in Ponsonby Road on February 9. Constable Mawhinney said McDowell had been with seven other youths of the hoodlum type on a Sunday evening about 7 o’clock. They had been making a noise at the -corner of Great North. Road and Ponsonby Road so witness had told the youths to move on. They had all obeyed except McDowell. Defendant’s explanation was that he had been waiting for a friend. “Well, he must wait for his friends somewhere else.” added the magistrate. •These youths must learn to obey the police.”
