LEVELS OF LAKES
INVESTIGATIONS IN ROTORUA DISTRICT NO CAUSE FOR ALARM From Our Own Correspondent . ROTORUA, Tuesday. A Sun representative interviewed Mr. A. Warbrick. government guide at Tarawera, with regard to the possibility of the lake flooding and thus raising the level of Lake Tarawera. Mr. Warbrick was emphatic in saying that no flood, as suggested by recent correspondence, would take place. He said he had the lake levels constantly under observation, and the figures quoted were not correct. He was reticent regarding the possibility of seepage, but eventualy said there was some small seepage but not sufficient to cause the slightest alarm. Messrs. McMorran, Watkinson and Hill, who yesterday visited Lakes Rerewhakuitu and Rotomahana, said today that the contingency of Rotomahana overflowing and flooding the country was somewhat remote. Records of the lake-levels were taken at frequent intervals by the Tourist Department. They stated that there was no sign of seepage and that the second source of danger might be a sudden rise in the level. As it would need to be a rise of some 40£t, in their opinion, that could also be discounted.
