GOLFING IMPROVEMENTS
ALTERATIONS to links and CLUBHOUSE SPLENDID FACILITIES Now that more than £I,OOO has been expended in improving the Titirangi Golf Club’s clubhouse, the facilities for members are probably the best in New Zealand. This sum has been absorbed in alterations to the upper floor. The corner of the building fronting the entrance to the grounds has been converted into a lounge room 50ft by 2Sft, with windows overlooking the course on two sides. The walls have been panelled half-way up in dark timber, the upper half of the plaster walls being finished in bright green. Swing doors give entrance to the lounge from the upper hall, which is also panelled A cardroom has been provided off the lounge, and a new billiards-room is to be established in part of the custodian’s old quarters. The women’s lounge is now situated in the old club lounge room. Effect is now being given to the recommendations of Dr. A. Mackenzie in improvements of the course. A wider fairway to the fifth hole without altering the length of the fourth hole has been provided by moving the fourth green to the right. The new green has been sown and should be ready for play by the spring. NEW BUNKER TYPES Enlargement of the tenth green is in progress and a new sysetm of bunkering is being constructed at this point and also at the fifth and 17th fairways. The remodelling of the 13th and 15th greens to widen the course, also recommended by Dr. Mackenzie, cannot be undertaken before the winter. New tees are being formed at the fifth, 17th and 18th holes, but these will not lengthen the course. These will probably be turfed and will be ready for play in two months. No advice has yet been received when Major A. E. Conway, representative of the New Zealand Golf Council, who is to report on the suitability of the
links for the Mow Zealand = - ship, will inspect the course P l2"' Manawatu Club. Palmerston v is Titirangi's only rival for the chorthpionship meeting.
