VISITORS PASS 200 MARK PLAY AT NEW PLYMOUTH Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. The cricket match between Taranaki and the M.C.C. was continued today in ideal weather. The not-out men, Turnbull (65), and Cornford (5) faced the bowling of Clarke and Lav. With the total at 180, Turnbull was smartly run out by Cheevers. Score, 180 —6—79. His innings had been invaluable. E&rle was next in, and immediately livened up the game. The second century was put up for just under two and a-half hours’ play. At noon the score was 215 for six wickets. Earle and Dawson continued to bat merrily. The former passed Turnbull’s total when he lifted Nasmith clean out of the ground. After 40 minutes’ batting, with his total at 98, Earle was well caught by Young, off Clarke. Score, 332—8—98. Barratt did not last long, being leg-before to Lav. Score, 335 — 9 — 2. Cornford did not last long, being clean bowled by Clarke. Score, 231—7—18. Dawson was next in and Earle laid on the wood. He reached 50 in 15 minutes and was dropped once in the field. Dawson reached 20 and the third century appeared, the last 100 coming in 45 minutes. Earle hit out in great style and had S 5 to his credit for 30 minutes’ batting, including four sixes and ten fours. A Horn was next in. Dawson was still scoring freely and reached. -50 soon after. After the score had been taken to 250 A. M. Ongley, whose -own total was 39, got his leg in front to Diack. Spring was the next batsman and the runs came steadily until M. Ongley returned one to Diack. Score eight for 259. Cutler was the incomer. The score was carried to 310. when Cutler went out leg before. O’Keefe and Spring raised the total to 384 at luncheon.
