A report that ex-King Amanullah has reached Angora en route for Afghanistan has caused the greatest excitement at Kabul. It is likely that important developments will arise. King Amanullah must regard the ultra-liberal Europeanising of the Turkish _Government of Ghazi ,hPasha as a favourable sign of a new feeling in Islam and may ask its goodwill if not active assistance in an attempt to regain the throne. Presumably such an attempt will be made from the north through Soviet territory. Much depends on the attitude of the Soviet which always seemed to regard King Amanullah as revolutionary but, on the other hand, it is not keen on kings, and will probably not commit itself to support King Amanullah unless confident, that he will win through
