TRAFFIC OUTLET
NEGOTIATIONS FOR OLD DOCK SITE RELIEVING CONGESTION That the old dock site should be reserved as a terminus for bus traffic is the opinion of the Auckland Town Planning Association. This was decided at last evening’s meeting when a report to that effect from the sub-committee was adopted. Mr. W. .J. Holdswortli presided. Stating that buildings on the site would not only affect the appearance of the city, but would considerably affect the traffic organisation, the committee urged that the area could be made into a loading centre for passenger buses, to relieev the congestion at the foot of Queen Street. A plan showing a proposed scheme for dealing with the area, was displayed. Shopping facilities and shelter arrangements would be provided. The remaining area would be of value to the Harbour Board as a retail shopping centre. The question had been referred to a town planning committee by the City Council, said Mr. Holdswortli, chairman of the association, and tho Harbour Board, realising the importance of the matter, had withdrawn the sections from sale in the meantime. A conference was arranged between the City Council, the Town Planning Association, and tho Transport Board, and negotiations were now afoot between the City Council and the. Harbour Board, as a result of which it was hoped that the City might he provided with a useful traffic outlet.
