NEW REGENT

“MARIANNE” “Just you—just me. ...” You’ll be humming that plaintive melody when you walk out of the New Regent Theatre after beholding Marion Davies in her first feature length talking picture, “Marianne,” which is now being shown there. A brand new flock of song hits are in this sparkling romantic comedy in which Miss Davies sings with a captivating charm that is certain to win for her even greater popularity than she now enjoys—and that’s saying a lot. In the picture Miss Davies plays the part of a French peasant girl who falls in love with an A.E.F. doughboy but sacrifices her happiness when her former soldier-sweetheart returns blinded from the war. Included in the suporting cast are Lawrence Gray, Cliff (Ukelele Ike) Edwards, Benny Rubin. Robert Edeson. George Baxter and others of note. All deserve special praise for the capable and entertaining way in Which they present their characterisations. . A splendid supporting programme is also being presented.

Ronald Colman’s next picture following “Condemned,” just finished at United Artists studios, is to be “Raffles, the Amateur Cracksman,” E. W. Horning’s well-known story.
