ILLICIT LIQUOR
SOUTHLANDER FINED £2OO MAGISTRATE THREATENS GAOL Press Association INVERCARGILL, Today. For being in possession of liquor on which no duty had been paid, Peter Mcßae was fined £2OO by Mr. E. C. Levvy, S.M., today, who said that if any more such c?ses were found he would consider exercising his powers to sentence offenders to imprisonment. The Collector of Customs stated that in spite of numerous prosecutions within four years the distilling of illicit liquor was still carried on in Southland. The liquor contained a large percentage of fusel oil. which had deleterious effects.
