MOTOR-RACING
MEETING FOR MANGERE BIG PROGRAMME A fine motor-racing programme will be presented on the Mangere Speedway on week, March 8. It has been arranged by the Auckland Automobile Racing Club, Limited. There will be 11 events. Seven for motor-ears and three for motorcycles, while three cups are open for competition. The New Zealand Light Car cup, which was presented some years ago by the A.A.A. for annual competition, has not been raced for since the meeting at Murxwai Beach, in 1927, but it will be competed for at the forthcoming Mangere meeting. There is also the Dawson Cup, for the ladies’ handicap, and the cup presented by Mrs. H. Butcher, for the closed car handicap. Interest attaches to the motor-cycle side-car event, which will be run in the opposite direction to the other races. This event should provide considerable excitement as the combination outfits can maintain nigh speeds and are extremely interesting to w’atch. Several hundred tons of waste oil will be sprayed on the speedway in order to reduce the dust nuisance, which has caused inconvenience to competitors and spectators alike at previous meetings. _After being sprayed with the oil, the surface of the track should be in good condition to hold high speeds in safety. The Auckland Aero Club has been requested to arrange for a display of aerobatics during the afternoon. The aerial display was postponed last meeting on account of the Milford flying fatality. The programme is as follows: Speedway Handicap, 8 laps.—This was run at the last meeting, but will be re-run between the four leading cars to decide a protest. The competitors will be Donald’s Hudson, the Smith Special, the Sutherland Special and the Stuart Special. Pukaki Handicap, 5 laps, for motorcycles. Women’s Handicap, 2 laps, for stock machines. This carries the Dawson Cup. Motor-cycle Side-car Handicap, 4 laps. Mangere Handicap, 4 laps, for racing cars. Ihumatao Handicap, 5 laps, for motor-cycles. N.Z. Light Car Cup, 12 laps, engine up to 1,500 c.c. President’s Handicap, 5 laps, for motor-cycles. Speedway Handicap, 8 laps, for motor-cars. Closed Car Handicap, 2 laps, for stock machines. This carries the cup donated by Mrs. H. Butcher. One Lap Handicap, for motor-cars, open.
