CONFERENCE AT HERMITAGE PRESIDENT RE-ELECTED Press Association THE HERMITAGE, Monday. The annual conference of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of New Zealand, which was opened in Timaru on Thursday, was concluded at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, at the weekend. The conference reaffirmed its opinion that the law should be amended to permit of the publication of dividends on racing and trotting events. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. G. C. Codlin (Auckland) tor his services on the labour committee, and to Mr. John Coombe, for his services on the advertising committee. Mr. C. W. Earle was unanimously re-elected president. Members of all sections of the association expressed their keen appreciation of the valuable services of Mr. Earle during the past year. The president referred to Sir Charles Fergusson’s message received on the eve of his departure from New Zealand, conveying his appreciation of the assistance he had received from the Press of the Dominion during his term as Governor-General. It was decided to acknowledge the message, and to place on record the association’s pleasure at Sir Charles’s thoughtful action. During the conference Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of railways, addressed the delegates on railway matters. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting of the association at Rotorua,
