Obituary
MR. GEORGE MARLOW A long business career, 65 years of which was spent in Hew Zealand, closed on Saturday with the death of Mr. George Marlow, at the age of 91. A Londoner by birth, Mr. Marlow came to the Dominion in 1865, landing in Dunedin from the ship Hero. He first joined the drapery firm of Herbert Haynes in the southern city, and later was associated with Boss and Glendining. Subsequently he became travelling representative for Bing. Harris and Company, covering territory from Auckland to the Bluff. He came to Auckland in 1881 and served with the firm of Archibald Clark for a number of 3*ears. Comparatively late in life he took up farming, and for 10 years, with his son?, he worked a holding of 1.000 acres at Katikati. After 20 years on the clerical staff! of the Waihi Gold Mining Company at Waikino Mr. Marlow retired nine years ago, then being well over 80 years of age. He leaves a familv of six sons and two daughters. There are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
MR. WILLIAM B. WHITE
A former prominent business man and local body administrator, Mr. William Bagnall "White, died on Saturday, aged 75. A son of the late Mr. John White, a magistrate and prominent historian of early Hew Zealand. Mr. White received his education at Wesley College and then entered the seed business. He later became interested * n the timber trade and in 1877 he became associated in business with the late Mr. C. J. Stone, whose daughter he married three years later. He was a shareholder in the Shortland Timbe- r Company, which later disposed of its interests to the Kauri Timber Company. In the late 'nineties. Mr. White was actively associated with City controlbeing a member for the Grafton ward for five years, until his retirement ih 1900. He was also a member of the Auckland Hospital Board from until 1897. Mr. White took a keen interest in military service, and for **• time was the O.C. of the Auckland territorial district, with the rank o-lieutenant-colonel. He retired from the defence forces in 1914. During hi* association with the territorial force* Mr. White held the Hew Zealand rine championship and the long service medal. For some years Mr. Whit# vras the rear-commodore of the Hew Zealand Bower Boat Association and J member of the Koval New Zealand Yacht Squadron. He is survived b> his wife and two daughters. Mrs. E. K Boucher and Mrs. A. Addison, an« three sons, Messrs. L. W. and B. J* White, of Auckland, and Mr. C- **• White, of Manurewa.
