“USE MORE WOOL”
PRODUCTION METHODS MUST IMPROVE SUPERIORITY OF FIBRE United P. A.— By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, Saturday. Dr. Sydney Barker, who is Director ot Woollen Research at Leeds, says the "use more wool” campaign will not materially assist the industry, unless the vagaries o£ fashion are also met by methods ot production and utilisation founded on the same bases as those of wool's synthetic rivals, namely, a full knowledge of the scientific fundamentals of the fibre itself. Thus a diversity of effects and the enhancement of the variety of products in meeting the market demands will become possible. Wool is the finest possible material for body clothing. It is light, has tensile strength equal to that of cast iron, and creates heat in itself when wetted.
The British manufacturers can, through scientific investigation, link up with their Dominion colleagues, and exploit wool, perhaps on entirely new lines leading to an assured future.
