MEETING IN WELLINGTON VICTORY FOR SAVIDAN Press Association WELLINGTON, Sunday. j The Wellington provincial amateur ‘ athletic championships were held yes- ! terday at Petone under fair condi- \ tions. No records were broken other I than in the discus event, in which P. J Munro, of Wellington, broke his own Australian and New Zealand record of 137 ft, which has been standing since 1924. Munro threw the discus 139 ft 2 in. Considerable interest attached to the appearance of J. W. Savidan. of Auckland, present bolder of the New Zealand championship titles for one and three miles, as well as the national cross-country championship. Although beaten in the mile. Savidan was an easy winner in the three-mile, lapping at least one of the competitors. His time for the mile event was 4m 28s and for the three miles 14m 595. R. Rose competed in the mile event. He has been training carefully for some time and will meet Lermond next Saturday at the Basin Reserve. Rose did not exert himself very much yesterday and finished with the first bunch. One of the features of the afternoon was the exhibition of perfect style given by Miss N. Wilson, of Gisborne, the Olympic Games representative.

CHAMPIONS IN DUNEDIN
LERMOND AND GOLDING WIN Press Association DUNEDIN, Saturday. The amateur athletic carnival at the Caledonian ground today attracted an attendance of 3,000 people. A strong wind blew across the ground. In the mile scratch race Lermond (America) had no trouble in gaining a victory. He came up in the last lap with a magnificent stride and won from Barnes, with Morris third. Golding (Australia) won the 440yds event easily with McLachlan second and Price third. The competitors in the one-mile relay race were six local club teams and an international team, Barnes. Lermond, Golding and Brownlie. The event was won by the Leith Club with Anglican second. The contest was not very interesting as the visitors were forced to give away a great handicap. In the hop. step and jump handicap, R. O. Johnson made an Otago record of 45ft BJin.
