LATE MR. C. W. GARRARD
SPORTSMEN’S LAST TRIBUTE
Sportsmen paid their last respects to the late Mr. C. W. Garrard, senior inspector of schools in Auckland district, at the funeral yesterday. The cortege was lengthy and was representative of all classes of the community. Inspectors of the Auckland Education Board: Messrs. G. H. PlumT. A. Morland, A. F. McMutrie, D. E. Leslie, H. McChesney and O. A. Gumming, acted as pall-bearers. The service from St. Luke’s Church was conducted by the Hev. J. A. Thomson. A number of organisations were represented as follows:—Canterbury Hugby .Union, Mr. C. W. Oram and Mr. R. Dansey; Auckland Rugby Union, Mr. J. Arneil and Mr. M. J. Sheahan; Auckland Cricket Association, Mr. J. "Watts; Auckland Education Board, Mr. A. Burns.
Other institutions represented were the Young Women’s Christian Association, the Auckland Training College, the St. Heliers Bay and Remuera Bowling Club, the Glendowie Golf Club, the Auckland Teachers’ Institute, the Auckland Headmasters’ Association, and the Auckland Bowling Centre. As a mark of respect to the memorv of Mr. Garrard flags at Eden Park at the Test match were flown half-mast on Saturday. Members of the Auckland Bowling Club paid tribute to the loss of their colleague on Saturday. A vote of sympathy with Mrs. Garrard and family was carried iri silence and the flag at the club flew at halfmast throughout the day. A vote of sympathy was also passed at the West End Club prior to play in the interclub match between West End and Auckland.
