WOMAN HANGED
CALLOUS SLAYING OF AGED RANCHER
“MYTHICAL YOUTH” DEFENCE United P.A. By Telegraphs — Qop-yright Reed. 10 a.m. VANCOUVER, Today. The first woman ever executed in Arizona was hanged at Tucson. She was Mrs. Eva Dugan who, three years ago, killed Albert Mathis, an aged rancher, to secure possession of his farms. The woman and Mathis went for a motor ride and the man never returned. His body was not discovered for a year. Dugan at her trial asserted that the actual slaying was done by a nine-teen-year-old youth, but though she received letters purporting to be from him, he did not materialise, and the police became satisfied tbat he never existed.
