HEAT WAVE SENDS CROWDS TO BEACHES HOTTEST FOR TWO YEARS United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 4 p.m. SYDNEY, Today. Sydney sweltered in the heat yes-tai-day and is doing the same todays Last night was the hottest for two years.. The minimum temperature was 73, with 84 per cent, humidity, at four o’clock this morning. At midnight the temperature was 79, and it was up to this again at 6 a.m., and climbed quickly till 9 a.m., when it read 93 degrees, the highest 9 a.m. figures since 1922. At 10 o’clock the thermometer read 95.7. A change in the wind from north-east to north-west brought a hot blast from the interior.
Urban populations are migrating en masse, where possible, to the beaches.
