BEACH IN STUDIO

ELABORATE SETTING FOR PICTURE REAL WAVES UNSUITABLE A large indoor bathing beach, strewn with the usual beach furniture, including sun-umbrellas and chairs, was recently constructed to provide ah interesting setting for a talking motion picture. The huge set was built in one of the large studio sound stages for Paramount’s “The Laughing Lady,” in which Kuth Chatterton is starred. In “The Laughing Lady,” one of the sequences calls for a beach scene. Victor Schertzinger, the director, was determined to take the scene at the beach, but when the sound truck arrived on location, the roar of the waves and wind made it difficult for the microphone to pick up the voices of the players distinctly. As a result, the bathing beach was moved to the studio by way of sand trucks.
