ILLUMINATED LINES

LONDON GROUND SIGNALS Foundations are being laid of one of London’s most interesting traffic control schemes. On the west side of the Marble Arch “circus” illuminated lines are being let into the road to replace the white lines at which traffic has to stop when held up by point-duty police. The new lines are lit from below b3’ electric lamps and show up at night, even through mud. There is also a scheme to use red or green lights in these lines for the control of traffic, stopping it with a red line and allowing it to proceed with a green line. The installation, which is being put down by the Paddington Borough Council, is experimental. If it is a success it may be extended to other parts of London.
