Mrs. J. F. Ewen Entertains Guests in Lovely Garden ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON Mr®-. J. F. Ewen, of “Glenesk," Remuera Road, was “At Home" in her beautiful garden yesterday afternoon to a very large number of friends. To receive her guests the hostess wore a very charming gown of navy and deep rose flowered chiffon, with a wide-brimmed navy bankok hat, osprey-trimmed. The afternoon was delightfully spent in the garden, where the wonderful

beds and banks of flowers were greatly admired. The tennis court was the centre of attraction for the younger guests, many of whom played some enjoyable sets. Afternoon tea was served on the terraces, where small tables, covered with orange linen cloths and decorated with bright orange flowers, were arranged. Incidental music was supplied by an orchestra under the leadership of Mr. Frank Egerton. AMONG THE GUESTS The Countess of Orford was wearing a gown of oyster tinted georgette, the petalled hem being defined with rows of narrow lace. Her ballibuntal hat was of beige, osprey trimmed, and she wore a short fur wrap. Lady Sinclair-Lockhart wore a black and amber patterned crepe de chine gown and large hat, trimmed with ospreys. Lady Elliot was in a navy chiffon ensemble with oriental embroideries, and a navy bankok hat. Lady Robertson’s georgette gown was of deep cedar rose and her shady hat was a black bankok. Mrs. H. O. Nolan was in a black georgette and lace gown with small liseret straw hat of bright lacquer red. Mrs. A. M. Ferguson was in a black, red and beige patterned crepe de chine gown with wide-brimmed black hat. GENTIAN BLUE GEORGETTE Mrs. A. S. Bankart’s gown was of gentian blue georgette, worn with furs and a blue hat. Mrs. Bickerton Fisher had on a honeycoloured georgette frock, ermine necklet and a beige hat. Mrs. P. A. Lindsay was in a black lace frock and black hat, osprey-trimmed. Mrs. E. A. Dargaville’s gown was of clel blue lace, worn with a pretty beige and brown hat. Mrs. H. Hellaby was in a black satin ensemble with black ballibuntal hat. Mrs. Milsom chose figured georgette in tones of black, grey and cherry, and wore a platinum grey hat. Mrs. Edwin Horton chose a black patterned georgette ensemble with small black hat. Mrs. Mervyn Reed chose a pretty ivory cnepe de chine frock and close-fitting blue felt hat. Mrs. Sydney Thorne-George wore a hat e eeoreette sown with a cigar brown Mrs. R. Isaacs was in black georgette and lace and a black hat. Mrs. Lawrence Ludbrook was in a blue ensemble with hat to tone. Mrs. W. B. Colbeck’s frock of navy flowered chiffon was worn under a navy georgette coat, navy hat. Mrs. H. E. Vaile wore a patterned crepe de chine gown in black and vellow tones, black coat and black bankok hat. Mrs. J. Wilson was In a figured satin gown, with fawn coat and hat. Mrs. J. J. Kingston had on a lido blue pleated crepe de chine frock and a limecoloured hat. Mrs. E. B. Gunson’s frock was of green and rose flowered chiffon with shady beige hat. Mrs. T. W. Wilkins’s gown was of french grey georgette worn with a rosecoloured hat. Mrs. W. N Abbott chose black printed crepe de chine with a black hat. Mrs. Macky’s lace gown was of deep lacquer red and her wide-brimmed hat was of matching shade. Mrs. A. G. Talbot was wearing black georgette over pink chiffon, and a black hat. Mrs. Selwyn Upton had on a brown printed satin gown and smart brown hat. Mrs. R. Rose was in a smart black and white figured crepe de chine gown and close-fitting black hat. Mrs. G. C. Cruickshank was in black flowered georgette and a fawn hat. Mrs. Brian Hewitt had on an ivory crepe de chine frock, with short yellow sports coat and close-fitting hat.

Mrs. Culling’s gown was of black and gold flowered crepe de chine, with black coat and hat. Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane was wearing a pretty spotted gown of georgette, with a brown bankok straw hat. Mrs. J. Rose wore a delphinium blue georgette frock, with a black hat. Mrs. R. Towle had on a gown of brown patterned crepe de chine, with black wide-brimmed hat. Mrs. Ramsay had on a frock of apple green crepe de chine, with a fawn hat. Mrs. Lloyd wore a black tur-trim»fed coat and powder blue hat. Mrs. J. Russell was in black crepe satin relieved with briar rose, and small black hat. Mrs. P. Hanna had on an oyster-shaded frock, with a small white hat. Mrs. J. M. Carpenter had on a floral georgette frock in tones of cherry, black and grey, and black bankok hat. Mrs. E. Firth was wearing green and navy figured ring velvet, with a small navy hat. Miss L. Clouston was in a black flowered chiffon frock, with widebrimmed black hat.
