Obituary
MRS. C. J. HARPER The death, has occurred at Devon - port of Mrs. C. J. Harper - , at the age of 81 Born in County Tyrone, Ireland, she came to New Zealand at the age of 14 in the sailing vessel Queen of the Deep Land grants were taken up by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Given, in the Pollok Settlement near Waiuku, and they lived there during the latter part of the Maori War. At the age of 24 she married Mr. James Harper, also of County Tyrone, and they went to live in Hamilton, after a number of years coming to Auckland. Mrs. Harper is survived by a family of seven, her husband having predeceased her in 1899. MRS. D. G. COLE By the death of Mrs. D. G. Cole, which occurred suddenly last evening, the Onehunga Presbyterian Church and the Y.W.C.A. have lost one of their most enthusiastic workers. She was a daughter of the late Alexander Whyte, who, in 1861, was one of the founders and first elder of the Onehunga church. Mrs. Cole lived in Onehunga all her life and her genial spirit and philanthropic work had earned for her the warm esteem of all classes of the community. She is survived by her mother. Mrs. Alexander Whyte, her husband, Mr. D. G. Cole, one daughter. Miss Mary C. Cole, and two sons, Dr. J. McMurray Cole, of Waihi, and Mr. A. C. W. Cole, of Onehunga. The f uneral will leave her late residence, “Clontivern,” Trafalgar Street, Onehunga, for the Mangere Cemetery at 2 p.m, tomorrow.
