BURIED IN EARTH FALL

LORRY AND DRIVER OVERWHELMED From Our Own Correspondent TAUMARUNUI, Thursday. A remarkable escape from tragedy is reported from the Ivaitieke District. At the Tarata Bridge, on the main highway, a motor-lorry driven by 11. Dempsey was completely buried by a large fall of pumice. All available men were put on to clear the debris, and they worked feverishly to liberate the imprisoned man. This was effected in time to save his life, though he was shocked to such an extent by the terrible experience that it was necessary for him to seek medical aid. The lorry was- afterwards recovered.
