SELECTION OF QUEENS

From Our Own Correspondent TE PUKE, Wednesday. Out of seven candidates nominated for the western district of the queen carnival, Miss Rosa Cooney was selected at a representative meeting. Enthusiasm is being evinced in the carnival, which commences on Friday, February 21. A strong committee to work in the interests of the western district queen was elected as follows: Chairman, Mr. G. Shaw; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. E. Gemming; assistant-secretary, Mr. D. Johnson; committee, Mesdames Shaw, Anderson, Wilkie, Hunter, Powell, Washer, Cliffe, Misses W. Harris, M. Cliffe, E. Cuff, Messrs. Johnson, Anderson, Persey, Taylor, Manning, Knight, Hargreaves, Gordon, Powell, Forester, Sweetman, Budge and Evans. Sub-committees to control concerts, dances, competitions have also been appointed. The carnival, which is being held for the purpose of raising funds for the erection of a women’s rest room, reading room and the establishment of swimming baths, promises to be *he most successful yet held in this town.
