“FIT OF LAZINESS”
VAGRANT TAKEN HOME BY MOTHER SLEEPING IN DOMAIN Described by Chief-Detective Hammond as having been overcome by a fit of laziness, Norman Batty was charged at the Police Court this morning with being idle and disorderly. Accused’s mother took him home and the man was convicted and discharged. Batty, a soapmaker, aged 30, appeared for sentence, having been in gaol a week on remand. He was stated to have no money and no home. In the opinion of the chief-detective. Batty was looking better for his week in gaol. He had been sleeping in the Domain and lounging about during the day. He had respectable parents but would not work.
Staff-Captain I-lolmes, of the Salvation Army, said accused's mother was taking him home and Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., imposed no additional penalty.
