MISS LOUDEN ENTERTAINED

A very happy evening was organised by the Epsom Grammar School Old Girls’ Association in the School Hal!, Silver Road, on Wednesday evening, when Miss A. Louden, the new headmistress, was given an enthusiastic welcome. The guest of the evening was received by Miss Margaret Chaplin, president of the .association, and on her arrival at the hall was presented with a bouquet of autumn flowers by the vice-president. Miss I. Park. A very hearty welcome was extended to the new headmistress by the president, on behalf of all old girls of the school. Reference was made to Miss Louden’s fine qualities and to her previous records both in the scholastic world and in the sports field. In reply, Miss Louden made a sin-

cere little speech in which she mentioned the strong ties of fellowship which it is possible for the Old Girls’ Association to form and strengthen. £s>ho anticipated many pleasant dealings with the Epsom Old Girls’ Association. An excellent programme was giv'en during the evening, including: Pianoforte solos by Misses J. Hewitt and W. Cook: violin solos, Miss D. Higham; recitations, Misses M. Pilkington, M. Free, N. Andrews; songs, Miss D. Higham; and humorous sketches, Miss L. Roseveare. Supper was served in the school supper room, which had been very charmingly decorated for the occasion. Miss Louden was wearing a gown of larkspur blue chenille embossed georgette, and Miss Chaplin chose a gown of black and burgundy red crepe de chine. Members of the teaching staff present were: Miss F. Patterson, Miss H. Kirkbride, Miss M. Freeman, 'Miss R. Jenkins, Miss G. Hutton. Miss G. Campbell, Miss A. Cozens, Miss Hay, Miss Harris, Mrs. Boult and Mrs. Walker.
