ARREST OF YOUTH
CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING SCHOOLGIRL REMANDED IN CUSTODY From Qur Oxen Correspondent PUKEKOHE, Today. Following the brutal attack on a schoolgirl near the Razorback, Bombay, yesterday afternoon, a youth, John Vernon, aged IS years, was arrested late yesterday afternoon. tie was remanded till Wednesday in the Police Court today. From what the girl told the police, they considered her assailant was hiding in the vicinity of his employer's farm. A close search of the countryside was made throughout Wednesday night and yesterday by Sergeant Cowan and Constables Powell, Olsen, Maiden and O’Donnell. About 4 p.m. yesterday the police surrounded a marsh, and the youth walked out and was arrested. This morning the youth arrested, John Vernon, appeared in the Pukekohe Police Court before justices of the peace and was charged with assaulting the girl. He was remanded in custody to appear before a magistrate on Wednesday. The victim of the assault is still suffering from shock.
