DECORATIONS ON FIRE

RESULT OF FLASHLIGHT A small flicker that could easily have become a big blaze occurred when a flashlight photograph was taken last evening in the Society of Arts Hall, when the Overseas League opened its new clubroom. The wooden walls were heavily draped with hundreds of streamers, which were also hung from the centre of the ceiling. When the flash of the photographer’s magnesium died away, a flicker remained. Two or three streamers had -caught alight, and by the time some of the men present had peeled off their dress jackets, six streamers were burning. Four or five coats were thrown at the wall, and the potential fire subsided.
