AUSTRALIAN STOCKS
BETTER TONE INDICATED LONDON, Thursday. The financial correspondent of the •‘Daily Telegraph” says Australian loan stocks recently have been under a cloud, but public sentiment has been favourably influenced by the assertion of Sir Robert Gibson, chairman of tho Commonwealth Bank, that those who purchase Australian securities today will have reason to congratulate themselves in the future. Inquiries in the city show that there is little disposition to sell Australian stocks. Large holders are sitting "tight, and it is somewhat difficult to obtain short-dated loans in any quantity. There are no misgivings concerning the ability of the Australian States to meet their obligations maturing in the next few years. The “Telegraph” goes on to give details of Australian stocks likely to appeal to those'who are looking out for reasonably assured capital appreciation which is not liable to income tax.
