TRAMS IN COLLISION
CARS BADLY DAMAGED BUT NOBODY HURT SMASH AT PONSONBY When a Grey Lvnn tramcar, filled with passengers for Western Springs Stadium, unexpectedly swung across the track of a tram going toward the City at about 7.30 last evening, the cars collided. Although both vehicles were badly damaged the motormen and passengers escaped injury. The accident occurred at the Fonsonby reservoir intersection, and is believed to have been caused through the failure of the points. The Grey Lynn tram, driven by Mr. S. Morony. was travelling along Karangahape Road, and at the turn-off was switched into Ponsonby Road. The motorman had expected a clear run through. At the moment the other tram coming to the City from Grey Lynn with Mr. C. Eyers driving, charged into the outward car. Meeting solidly on the right-hand corners, the cars ripped away the steps, broke the windows of the drivers’ control cabs, and shattered the woodwork. Both cars were driven away to the workshops shortly after ward for examination and repair Neither of the trams left the tracks, and no serious interruption of traffic resulted.
