N.Z. EXPERTS FORM COMMITTEE WILL STUDY ATMOSPHERICS From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. A committee working under the auspices of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has been formed to study wireless communication in New Zealand. The committee consists of Mr. A. Gibb, chief engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department, Professor R. Jack, of Dunedin, Professor P. W. Burbidge, of Auckland, Mr. J. M. Bingham, engineer to the New Zealand Broadcasting Company, and Dr. Barnett, physicist to the Department of Scientific Research. At a -meeting of the committee in Wellington last week lines of research were planned. These include experiments to determine the origin of static | and its possible connection with cyclonic disturbances in the Tasman. Measurements will also be made of signal strength from Australia to investigate the causes of absorption and to decide the importance of meteorological factors. The committee will also co-operate with other research stations in the study of the properties of short waves by observing transmissions' from Arlington and Schenectady in the United States, Eindhoven in Holland and Kyoto in Japan.
