FISH FROM THE AIR
Avalanches cause curious effects and a most unusual result was reported from Norway recently. .At the time there, had been a heavy fall of snow, followed by a thaw that melted a great deal of ice on a small river. During the night a large mass of snow slipped away from the hills and glided with great velocity in to the river. The amount of snow was so considerable that it did not simply share the bed with the river, but with great violence ejected all the water, together with the fish it contained. The force exerted was so great, indeed, that the water and fish were hurled hundreds of feet. Next morning the peasants were surprised to find high on the hills above the river, great numbers of fish scattered over the snow. For some days fishing of a new sort was in progress. Men, women and children were floundering about in tlie snow, picking up the fish and putting them into baskets. So many fish were obtained that, for some weeks, the people in that section had all that they needed without using their nets or fishing-hooks.
