£62,000 FOR DRAINAGE
IMPROVEMENTS AT MOUNT ROSXILL TENDERS TO BE CALLED The engineer to the Mount RoskiU Road Board, Mr. John Dawson, reported at the board’s meeting last evening that plans and specifications for the Western Area drainage scheme were now practically complete and on the recommendation of the finance committee ratepayers through whose property the sewers will pass are to be immediately advised accordingly and informed that they will be allowed one calendar month in which to lodge protests. The engineer was authorised to engage a clerk of works at a salary of £7 a, week. The Local Bodies Loan Board is to be requested to authorise a rate of 5§ per cent, on tbe loan of £ 62,000 already approved of by the ratepayers. The bulk of the money is to be raised by the sale of debenturesfor a term of 30 years. Tenders for the work are to be invited forthwith to be lodged on or before March 17 next. The chairman of the board, the chairman of the finance and works committees with the board's engineer were suggested as a subcommittee to open the tenders on the evening of March 17 and submit a report to the board’s regular meeting on March 18. Messrs. E. W. Foote and R. W. Sanft took exception to the latter recommendation on the ground that such a course was both unusual and irregular. The engineer, Mr. John Dawson, pointed out the -work of summarising each tender was too big a job for a board meeting, and the only reason for the committee’s recommendation was to save the board’s time. Mr. E. A. Pearce explained that all the tenders would be submitted to the board for the final selection. All of the committee’s recommendations were carried.
