WESTFIELD STOCK SALE i WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. Good quality ox and heifer beef told at late rates at the Westfield fat stock sale today. A heavy yarding of cows again met a rather dull market. Best ox made to 42s a hundred; best cow and heifer to 39s a hundred. The offering of 2-41 head of steers did not show quite the quality of late sales many lines lacking the bloom of really well-finished cattle; many Would have reacted well to a few weeks on good fresh feed. There was a steady demand for better-quality sorts; exporters watched the market throughout, taking several pens in each row **t pi ices which should work out at around 37s Gd a hundred at the works. An entry of approximately £»3O head .of cows and heifers contained little of <xtra choice quality; the biggest part oi the offering was again drawn from the dairy herds of the province and, generally, did not make a very attractive showing. Ordinary cow beef sold at from 28s to 33s a hundred. Export buyers operated very sparingly on the cow beef section. Top price of the day was secured for a line of well finished heavy prime steers on account of Kirby Brothers, Cambridge, which went to T. Baster. Ponsonby, for £l6 17s 6d. Eleven in the line ranged to £l6 17s 6d. Two trucks of heavy prime steers on account of B. Reed, Waerenga, made from £l4 2s 6d to £l6. Seventeen medium weight steers on account of Proctor Brothers, Ohinewai, made from £l2 17s 6d to £l4 2s 6d. A’ine medium to heavy prime steers ° n account of J. R. Hill. Ohinewai, mnde from £l2 15s to £ls. Twelve good quality medium to heavy' Prime steers on account of Alec Orr, , H °teo. made from £l3 7s 6d to £l6. Heavy prime steers, generally, made fo £l6 17s 6d; medium, £l2 5s to £l4; light and small, from £lO. Heavy Prim® cows and heifers made to £ 12; medium. £7 15s to £8 17s 6d: light and email, from £ 6 to £7 2s 6d; unfinished from £4 10s. An average yarding of calves which met a market, if anything, a little better than last week’s. Extra heavy prime runners made up 1o £9 10s for a big-framed heifer which went to J. "Rowe, Newmarket. Ordinary runners made to £7 ss. Extra choice vealers made to £4 19s, medium 10s to £3 15s. Several lines of <hoice quality medium-weight station calves came forward. The demand for cows and heifers £ased toward the close as the smaller Butchers’ requirements were filled. Exporters’ limits on this class of beef seemed lower than last week. A comparatively heavy yarding of was made up mostlv of medium Quality wethers. • A start was not made on the sheep until after 2.30 p.m.
