TRAM EXTENSIONS

BOARD COMPLIMENTED ON QUICK WORK Complimentary remarks about the expeditious manner in which the Transport Board carried out the Dominion Road tramway extension were made by the Mount Albert Borough Council and the Mount Roskill Road Board at this morning’s meeting of the Transport Board. The Mount Albert Council asked that the Sandringham Gate Edeudaie) extension he expedited. The council also asked that the board make every endeavour to secure the necessary loan authority for the extension of the trams to Avondale. Mr. L. E. Rhodes asked if steps had been taken to arrange for a poll of ratepayers in this connection. The acting-chairman, Mr. G. Baildon, said that he thought it would be unwise to do anything about a poll until after the end of the financial year, March 31. The board would then know its financial position. Mr. E. H. Potter: That is the wise course. Mr. Rhodes asked that the Sandringham extension, which was a short one, be put in hand conjointly with the Three Kings Road (Mount Eden) extension, which is expected to be begun about August. The board-in-committee will report upon extensions.
